Our Mission

The Mobile Migrant Health Team (MMHT) is dedicated to providing high-quality, language-concordant healthcare to new arrivals and others experiencing homelessness in various settings. We recognize healthcare as a human right, work to address access gaps, and advocate for the well-being of migrants.

Chicago’s Migrant Crisis

Since August of 2022, Chicago has received over 40,000 asylum seekers and migrants. Many have traveled from South and Central America and are sent to sanctuary cities like ours by border states. In May of 2023, Chicago declared a state of emergency in response to the unprecedented influx of migrants.

Who We Are

Our teams of volunteers have screened and treated thousands of patients at Chicago police stations, in parks, and at pop up health fairs. Outside of our health runs, we give talks to educate others about the current crisis, attend meetings to advocate for our patients' rights, and connect vulnerable individuals with further support and assistance.

We make decisions through a regularly meeting board of directors. Our fiscal sponsor is the Figueroa Wu Family Foundation, although we manage all of our own fundraising and budget.

How to Get Involved

There are so many ways to get involved in helping out Chicago's vulnerable populations. If you're a student or healthcare provider, we'd love to have you join us for health outreach! Other ways to help include organizing donation drives for blankets and jackets, making donations of funds or medical supplies, and so much more.
